Grow a Mo, Save a Bro

Tuesday 01-11-2016 - 12:14

It's November... the perfect time for growing a moustache!

For those of you who don't know, November is the month for raising awareness for men's health issues and is termed Movember as men are encouraged to grow a moustache and make their own face an awareness raising tool.

The Movember movement began in 2003, and has gone global. The Movember Foundation address some of the biggest health issues faced by men: proastate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

"Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute."*

By 2030, they want to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%.

In order to help support the Movember movement, Rowan, your Welfare and Support officer, will be growing a moustache throughout the month. You can follow his progress on our social media channels and show your support by sponsoring him. Here's a photo of day one >>>
