UoC Zoological Society

  • Zoo

Description

Do you want to learn more your local wildlife? Do you want to spend more time outdoors here in Cumbria? Then this might be the society for you!

We're a group of animal enthusiasts based at Fusehill Street Campus that love getting outdoors and seeing what's around. Whether you're interested in charismatic mammals or elusive insects or amphibians, there'll definitely be opportunities for us to go exploring. You don't need to be a zoology student to join, anyone who likes animals or being outdoors is welcome! If there is anything you're particularly interested in or if you have ideas for activities we could do, we would be more than happy to arrange something involving your interests.

Potential activities we will be doing in the society are:

  • Birdwatching
  • Putting swift nesting boxes up around Fusehill street campus
  • Regular bird feeding on Fusehill street campus
  • Creating a wildlife area on Fusehill street campus
  • Pond dipping
  • Visiting nature reserves
  • Helping with volunteering
  • Improving identification skills
  • Track and sign
  • Going hiking
  • Beach litter picking
  • Surveying
  • Visits to Tullie House Museum to view collections
  • Study groups over the colder months

And there will be plenty more activities arranged in the future. If there are any queries please feel free to contact Oliver at s2205119@uni.cumbria.ac.uk. Hope to see you soon!
